I’m well aware of how other Christians look down on me for writing a fiction book instead of a devotional or a Christian nonfiction book. Or I should be spending my energy doing missionary work, preaching the gospel, serving somewhere…. Am I not doing such things? Ok, I’m not really a missionary (unless you count my job as a type of mission field), but I just don’t talk about that stuff.
I don’t fit in with other Christian fiction authors either. They write to write. They have several books, series, and they easily scrap one book and start another.
I’m not going to keep writing stories. I don’t normally read Christian fiction either (except Francine Rivers, Connilyn Cossett, and Ted Dekker). I like to research and study. Bible studies, research and serving God out in the world are all things I love to do but none of that is of me alone. They belong to others and focus on others and originate from others.
My 2 books are straight from my heart to God. They are a gift, a piece of art, originating from me. They are no different than a song written to God or a poem or a beautiful picture drawn for God. Yes, I want others to fall in love with God through these books and understand Him a little more, but these stories are for God. To glorify God. A gift.
