Given that humanity was made weak and dependent, there was an innate desire to be strong and independent. The fact that God gave humanity a choice to choose Him or “the knowledge of Good and Evil” gave them the ultimate freedom to choose God, rather than communing with Him because they know nothing else. This gave his angelic creation the freedom to choose as well.
This choice forever changed creation, and in their fallen state, humanity could no longer commune with God on a personal level. As if they were suddenly set a few dimensions lower than what they were created in, the two realms were forever separated.
This may seem counterproductive for God, who wanted so bad to be known. But it created the perfect opportunity for Him to display his compassion, his lovingkindness, mercy, grace, faithfulness, and everything about Him a perfect world could not fathom. Both humanity and the celestial beings would witness this side of Him.
